While working for Edinburgh's Hogmanay I accessed the top of the Scott Monument to photograph the fireworks welcoming in the new year. I must have had the best view in town, and it was definitely worth hauling all my gear up the 287 steps in pitch darkness to the top.

A procession of 40,000 people bearing flaming torches formed a river of fire and processed through the streets of Edinburgh up to Calton hill to light the bonfires. They were led by the Vikings of Up Helly Aa from Shetland, bagpipers and other musicians.
